God: sends a warning to correct us when we err…
Haggai 1:5 (KJV) “Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; consider your ways”.
As I live this life, I like to reflect on my actions and the reactions that occur; not to be bitter, but to assess the changes which need to be made or what I did right or wrong. It has happened that I might have made the same mistake twice, but I try not to dwell on the issue but move on to better practices.
One thing I won’t make a habit of is denying an issue which I have when it has been made clear it is present in my behavioral pattern. I appreciate constructive criticism in the attempt at bettering things about myself. I’m not talking about individuals who break you down for pleasure, but those who are honest in their approach.
I have known folks who would stand their ground no matter if they were found to be wrong or erroneous in their behaviors. And that can be debilitating to themselves and those they interact with; on a spiritual level it is a sure way to kill your spiritual life if you aren’t teachable or able to take correction.
In today’s reading, we see the Prophet of God being given a message to deliver to His people on their recalcitrant behavior; God first identified the problem, then He pointed out certain situations in their lives which were happening as a result of this problem; He then offered a reminder of what ought to be done to correct the discrepancy. The message ends with a warning, “consider your ways”.
That is sound advice to me in whatever dispensation I happen to be living in; look at my ways and line them up to the word of God to see whether I am in breach. Consider my ways to see if I am offending God; consider my ways to see whether I am hurting the Spirit of God. Consider.
New Trivia: This prophet was quoted by Jesus as He established His ministry in the tabernacle; who is it?
