God: is a holy God; is sanctified; He is….
Psalm 99:1-3 (KJV) “The Lord reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved. The Lord is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people. Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy”.
I stumbled on this reading early in the evening and it got me thinking very hard; when I say I stumbled upon it, I meant that it is not a part of what I was studying at the time, but somehow it was brought to my attention. Yes that sounds a bit sounder than stumbled.
But being pensive came about as I got to thinking, do we as believers get to thinking that God is less holy because He came in the flesh and took on the form of a man? According to the explication app on Google, the meaning of holy is “dedicated or consecrated to God or a religious purpose; sacred”.
I am thinking that even as a result of the sacrifice that He went through, the consecration of His life to accomplish the saving of our lives would place an emphasis on the need to appreciate and honor Him for who He is; He is God incarnate and He is still holy and as such we need to reverence Him.
He told Moses at the burning bush, “put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground” (Exodus 3:5 KJV); He told Joshua, “Take your shoes off of your feet; for the place on which you stand is holy” (Joshua 5:15 KJV). Holiness to God requires action on our part to acknowledge that He is holy; acknowledgment brings about awe.
Many people make sacrifice for the sake of their families; they thread the straight and narrow because they have kids and want to be a good reflection to them; they stay faithful to their families, spouses, marital vows etc. because they honor the relationship and see a future in being honorable. All these things will pass away, but our relationship with God and the hope that we have for the future is much more lasting in nature, yet we err in placing the same or higher importance on honoring the holiness of God.
It’s almost as if we suppose grace to have diluted the relevancy of the holiness of God; yet He is still a holy God and requires us to respect that and bring due diligence to worship Him. I know everyone can reach to rock bottom at times and feel as if they haven’t got anything to bring to the table, but God understands where we all are in our walk with Him, but the good thing about Him is that He is a restorer of the breach. When He restores and builds you up from being broken or from the nothingness you were, lift your eyes up to Him and honor Him.
Beloved every day in Christ is an opportunity to know different things, feel new things, and grow from strength to strength. Look on God in His beauty and His holiness and honor Him even as He honors you.
