God: source of power; sends the power from on high; gives the power liberally
Acts 1:6-8(KJV) “When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, it is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth”.
Many of us learn to pray from an early age; we know that at some level we need to reach out to the source of our strength and the giver of life to complete us and equip us for more, so we pray.
We get into the habit of asking for His will in things we are doing and what we want to accomplish; we desire agreement, blessings and honor from God in what we put our hands to, so we pray.
The disciples had the risen Christ before them; they had questions, and the thing that was of utmost importance to them they asked His direction: the restoration of Israel. Jesus response points to what was really important in the scheme of things:
“you need to realign your priority in what is of interest to you; I have asked the Father to give you power to do, this is the Holy Spirit; when He comes upon you, the work at hand comprises of; winning of souls; go into the world; tell them about me” (paraphrased).
We tend to get into that habit of asking questions that isn’t relevant to our future or is outside our realm of operation. Our curiosity tend to allow us to take up causes which we figure is of interest to us; yet when we get to the point of asking direction from God, we get pointed in a totally different direction.
What exactly are you into today that just might not be relevant to your calling or your ability as it relates to the kingdom of God? As for me I just came through a period of redirection which if you had asked me, I had all the passion and zeal, but lacked divine direction.
Stop, ask and confirm before moving on.
Trivia: He knew the exact date he was dying and the conditions; who is this?
Thank you for your many thoughts of truth grace! Thanks for your work to help us all on our walk with Christ!
Oh Lord! Help us to receive your power! Help us to release your power ! Renew us, Lord! Put a right spirit within us ( Psalm 51:10) – a spirit of praise, a spirit of obedience, a spirit of joy, your Holy Spirit! In the name of Jesus, Amen
