Daily Inspiration – Matthew 18:19 (KJV) “Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven”.
The bible is amazing in its provision for the direction we need to make in life; God in His infinite mercy knows our limitations, our weaknesses and our lack of follow through and following direction for the most part so he implemented the “IF” clause so that we know that wherever we see this word we need to be extra careful.
When Jesus used the word, I believe He knew that he would hardly find the ability to carry out the conditions 100% by His followers. Do you remember when as a young child, when your parent or someone in authority wanted to prove that you aren’t as smart as you think you are, they would set up a simple fail proof test, knowing that you won’t pass it and you would take on the challenge thinking it is as good as done? At the end of the testing you find out there was a wildcard that enabled you to fail even if you should have passed by your brilliant estimation.
When Jesus is saying “IF” two, only two shall agree on earth as touching anything, He knew how difficult that proposition would be. I guarantee that if we put it into writing and read from the same piece of paper, some one of the two will either add or take away from the script. I believe this is one of the simple reasons it is difficult to dive into serious prayer bursting cries and get the smashing results we ought to: lack of agreement.
2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (KJV), gives us another big “IF” that God puts on the Israelites; even today, it is being repeated in hot anticipation of deliverance.
I suggest that a part of the equation is missing on our part for we have not been able to accomplish the totally of the promise when the “IF” condition should have been met.
My prayer today, God, show us where we are missing the marks in your “IF’s conditions and when we miss the mark, demonstrate mercy and your grace in greater detail as you have been doing so far.
