Hebrews 9:27 (KJV)
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment”.
As a kid being taught the Holy Scriptures, there were certain books of the bible and certain verses, when you heard them would cause your body to freeze and it remained in that frozen position for days after. You would walk around in a circumspect manner for days on end, rebuking any iniquity which came to your mind. This verse had the power to create that feeling of do it right or die in me as child.
Today it is a scripture which pops into my consciousness ever so often. It means that each of us, no matter our position in life and how much we have in our bank account, no matter how healthy or sick we are, no matter if you are a lawyer, a banker or thief, the appointment you have to make in this life is death.
But the real deep intent of this verse is that after death, we have to face a judgment. Yes Sirs and Ladies, we all have to be answerable at some point. Some people believe this is a fallacy, but even though they make an argument for that believe, I would rather err on the side of caution and believe the inerrant Word of God. If He says so in his Words, then it must be true.
So, my rationale now in life is, I might play hard and fast with other things in my life, but the thought of standing to be judged after death and not having a good or righteous reason for my behavior here on earth is not palatable.
Scripture says, “I believe, so I have spoken” (2 Cor. 4:13 KJV). What will your answer be at that time?
