The heartrending events surrounding the impact of Typhoon Haiyan as it leaves a country in devastation; numerous lives torn asunder; families grieving for loved ones who they saw disappear and know that they will never see again; some viewing the bodies of their beloved lying in the streets as they gather the bodies of once living, breathing, touching individuals who was so much a part of their lives, but no more in existence.

It feels very surreal, seeing people lining the streets, and more so unreal seeing them staring at dead bodies lying on the roadways in military format for recognition and final procession.  It seems so callous to be looking at bodies in the street as one shopping on a busy thorough fare. The only shopping going on here is the claiming of bodies for a final resting place.

They are there in the Philippines, we are on the other side of the world; but we feel the pain, and see the horror they are experiencing.  Someone might say, I feel your pain, because you are my brother, sister, husband, father, wife, so I feel what you are feeling.  Someone also might ask, “Why God?” and think to blame our wonderful Father in heaven for this atrocity, for this massive loss of life, some young, some are babies, some old, some wise, some not so wise, but all PEOPLE.  Why blame God, why not blame the devil? Although some of us deny the existence of God, He becomes very real when trials like this strikes. And the accusations are more pronounced because we are in pain.

But I believe that God in His wisdom saw a day when this would happen, people would deny Him, yet identify and run to Him when trapped in a corner. He indicated in His word that when this happens; we ought to fear not, for He is, “our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.” (Psalm 46:1-3 KJV).

Beloved, I see you’re hurting, I feel your pain, I share your tears, I groan and travail with you as you bleed; even as the life has drained out of your bodies, I am with you who are left behind. I will be your strength even in this trying time as the elements pursue and overtake the lives of your loved ones; I will be in the midst of you.

Those who do not know God, will be quick to rage against Him, but know for a fact, that although, “the heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted” (Psalm 46:6 KJV), God will still be with the Philippines; He will be their refuge.  If there is one thing God is saying in the midst of all this destruction, this trial of life, this heart ache, it is He wants us all to “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10 KJV).

God is God and He is in a class all by Himself, although all hell is popping loose around us, although lives are being lost, even the elements rage against humanity, let us grieve, let us cry, let us as a people of love and destiny, be still and know that God is God.

Psalm 46

1.God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Come, behold the works of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth.

He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
