Psalm 42:4,5 “When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance”.
I’m sure I am not the only one who as a believer, got injected with the zeal juice which causes us to love going to church more than anything. I believe in the fellowship of God’s people, I love it, crave it and feel as if my life is incomplete without the fellowship found of these disparate individuals who are more needy than myself and they long for a place to call a home. This is what the bible meant when they spoke of forsaking not the assembly of the saints.
But with my love of fellowship, I know what it is to face the good, bad and downright ugly: one minute those close to you can be as supportive as you don’t know what, the next they turn on you and become as ugly as hell might be perceived. Don’t forget when they gang up and conspire against you: at this point you start talking to your feet and tell it to come into compliance with your brain and start running. You take off running for some months, then you crawl right back to fellowship:it’s that zeal juice at work again.
I believe the Psalmist was going through this process of hurt and rejection; for they for a season, praised God and had joy in doing this, but we know we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but principalities and powers of the air. So when next you go through your period of being taunted and ganged up by those holy and sanctified folks, talk to the principality within them that they can’t see or are aware.
You just might start to enjoy church going at another level when these folks see that you can see the force behind their evil machination and you speak behind your hand so that the evil spirit hears and leave their targets free from their wicked behavior.
Beloved, love the body of Christ and not the building. Christ is everywhere, take the name of Jesus with you….
Trivia: This dude is a riot; he told God, “you tricked me: you are only winning this fight because you are bigger than I am”.
